Introduction

Urban freight transport is the kind of freight transport that is carried out in an urban environment. Specifically, the transport of goods for commercial entities takes place in an urban area. This includes the pickup and deliveries of materials, supplies, consumables, parts, mail that a business needs to operate. This also includes the home deliveries to households that are mostly carried out by commercial transaction. The growing needs of modern businesses require high-speed delivery, to ensure that in today's environment is only capable of road transport.

The objective of this paper is very clear which defines that the focus of the study is based on the factors affecting the local authorities regarding the urban freight transport. Often, the company's competitiveness and business performance is directly dependent on the speed of moving goods from manufacturer to place its implementation. In addition, even the impact of financial crisis, which could not affect the road, did not shake one of the critical roles they play in the development of many types of modern business. Road transport continues to be the most affordable type of transportation services for clients with any budget. A large number of companies who have chosen their main field of activity of road transport, focus on what their customers' demands are and the companies compete for customers. As a result, the price of road transport has been declining, and their quality increases. Since urban freight transport holds so much importance in the operations of business today the objective of this study holds a valuable worth and it is very interesting for the people who are involved in the business operations today, especially those who are dealing with urban freight and transportation business. The value of this topic forces the reader to read further. This paper starts with a discussion of the research method and a frame of reference for the research conducted. Thereafter the results from the studies are presented, both qualitative and quantitative. The paper closes with discussion of the findings and conclusions. The focus in the research paper is on the perspective of local authority on sustainable urban freight transport. The aim is to understand the concept of the effects of freight transport on urban environment and to understand the awareness among the local authority about urban freight transport situation. Use of in-depth interviews to review transport in three cities

Use of questionnaire survey to review freight in all Swedish cities

There are three aspects, which are focused throughout the research: the concept of sustainability, knowledge and awareness, along with drivers and barriers.
