Research Problem

The research problem is lack of communication in the US army.

Relevance of the Research

Urban operations are one of the most challenging tasks for the US army. It requires the military soldiers to establish effective communication among each other to ensure success of operation. Furthermore, it is essential with respect to information flow through the chain of command. Any information, which is missed or not communicated on time, may result in severe consequences for the US army. Lack of communication in the urban warfare also results due to obstructions such as buildings and structures which cause electronic devices to not work properly. In addition, effective communication is significant whether it is at the lowest tactical levels, or incorporating infantrymen. There needs to be an inclusion and growing reliance on information superiority within the US army to meet the challenges that occur in urban areas (Lacy, 2007).

With respect to efficient flow of information and to ensure that there is effective communication, the US army needs to integrate technological devices and equipments with its task force. The problem of lack of communication can be addressed with the help of technology which will ensure that military soldiers communicate with each other across the chain of command (Debbie, 1995). On the other hand, the US army on the ground can decrease the demand for such equipments or methods with the help of strategies and tactics. According to the RAND research, it was found that US army needs to plan for both supply and demand for communications in urban warfare.
