US Health System vs. Canadian Health System

The successful health system of a county is considered as the primary source of health and welfare for the people of that particular region. In this paper, we will analyze, compare, and contrast the healthcare systems of U.S. and Canada. Although, the heatlh system of these two regions are somehow similar, still there are some visible as well as hidden factors that will help us to draw line between the two systems. The purpose of this study is to expand the boundaries of our knowledge by exploring some relevant information relating to the analysis of Politics manifests in two states. Medical Tourism refers to traveling outside the country of residence to get treatment. The phenomenon is not new; the Mediterranean converged to Epidaurus to heal under the protection of the god Asclepius. This kind of tourism is growing in the world, including the United States, due to the attraction of lower prices and especially the experienced scientific physicians, surgeons, medical offices and hospitals. Medical tourism or health tourism is offered by travel agencies and medical centers. Thus, there is support for patients as soon as they make contact with the organizers. Medical tourism has become a common form of vacation, and covers a broad spectrum of medical services. It combines leisure, fun and relaxation together with wellness and health. The Medical tourism can be broadly defined as the provision of private health care, in collaboration with the tourism industry for patients needing surgical, dental or other forms of specialized medical treatment from both the public and private systems of bodies (Pennings, p. 337). In this paper, the author will examine the causes behind the rise of medical tourism among US citizens with emphasis on US economic and insurance infrastructure vs. Canadian medical coverage for its citizens (Capitalism and group plans for the working class, individual purchased plans and Medicaid) compared to Canada's system.

With reference to medical cost, insurance coverage and access to healthcare services, we believe that Canadian Healthcare system is much more competent and comprehensive as compared to U.S. Healthcare system. The healthcare system of United States is the most expensive system in the world. The spending of United States on health system is more than any other industrialized country - both in absolute terms and relative to gross domestic product (GDP) per capita. Thus, only in 2007 the U.S. spent on health care 2.26 trillion dollars, which amounts to 7,439 dollars per person. According to recent estimates in the U.S. for medical care consumes about 16% of GDP. The forecasts suggest that, the share of GDP devoted to health in the U.S., will increase and by 2017 will amount to 19.5%. However, over the past 30 years, increased spending on this sector is mainly due to government programs that could seriously undermine the financial stability of the country.
