Introduction

In the past 20 years, crime in the United States has been declining, but the latest FBI figures show a sharp drop in the last two years despite the economic crisis why? Both Democrats and Republicans in government and times of prosperity and recession, crime has been declining since 1991. Robberies and murders fell by almost half between 1991 and 1998, a phenomenon that has saved thousands of lives and reduced the number of potential victims of crime. The pace of the decline slowed in the late 90's, but recent FBI data show a sharp decline that began in 2008 and continued last year, despite high-unemployment rates. There is no agreement on what are the reasons for this trend. Here, are 10 possible theories:

Theory of Vandalism

In 1982, a group of sociologists launched a theory suggesting that tackling vandalism in urban areas would prevent the spread of crime.

The subway in New York adopted this premise in the late 80's and Mayor Rudy Giuliani (above) puts it as the basis for its policy of "zero tolerance".

Proponents of the theory of vandalism include the drop in crime rates in New York, as evidence.

However, skeptics say that crime is down in many cities during this period, and it is difficult to prove a relationship.

The fact that Obama could justify such a reduction has accelerated in recent years as one of the most respected criminologists in the country, Alfred Blumstein. Police spokesman Joe Baeza says that introduced a protocol by which drivers could register their enrollment in a police database. That, he said, led the patrol to stop the vehicle they saw at night, to verify ownership.
