Introduction Boutique Investment Bank is now playing a very important role in the economy. They offer specialized services to specific sectors of the economy. Companies after the initial start up business look for Venture Capitals to provide funding for their businesses. Working in an investment bank is always a fromiddable task. I went through different new things which I had never experienced. The time spent their, gave me ample amount of learning and tested my skills. I will be discussing about my experience of working at Qatalyst Partners for three years, a Boutique Investment Bank, in this paper.

Discussion

This was my first experience with an Investment Bank, so it took around four months to get used of the processes and know about the role of Boutique Investment Bank. The experience was a little different from my other work experiences as I did not have much prior knowledge and I learned most of the concepts by working for the Bank.

Boutique Investment Bank is a name given to a small investment bank that work on smaller deals usually less than a billion dollar. They mostly help companies on the sell side of the transaction. They are known for specializing in specific industries including technology, health care, and energy. Few of these banks just specialize in certain transactions, and some specialize in preferred underwriting (Wise, 2006). They also specialize in providing services across different regions of the world. An important aspect of their services is the assistance they give in terms of mergers, acquisitions, buyouts and wealth management.

During my work experience, I learned this role of the Bank, which I thought was only pertinent to large Investment Banks. Sometimes people do not understand the role of investment bank, but during my tenure at the bank, I learned that the objective of such banks is to assist the economy achieve significant economic growth. For that purpose, they target certain industries that could be beneficial for the economy. This fact is evident from the fact that Qatalyst Partners was involved in providing assistance to Google and AT&T.

They also assist companies who are initially funded by venture capitalist, so these companies can survive in the industry. These banks rely on the power of growth through deep domain expertise. The experience I gained at Qatalyst Partners told me, that they provide specialized services to their clients. I was in the research team when Google was provided assistance. I had to go through all the financials of the company and feasibility of the project and had to design a report for the management to be approved. They act as a partner of their client instead of being an assistant. This aspect distinguishes these banks from other banks and is their source of interest irrespective of the presence of such enormous banks (Morrison & J. Wilhelm, 2007).
