Introduction

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. was founded by Sam Walton in 1962. It is an American multinational retailer corporation that runs a chain of huge discount departmental stores and warehouse stores. In 2008 it was branded as 'Walmart', which is the company's trademark. Walmart is the largest retailer of grocery in the United States. Walmart has more than 10,020 retail stores around the world in 28 countries and serves customers and its members more than 200 million times per week. It has around 2.2 million employs around the world. Walmart excels in sustainability, corporate philanthropy and employment opportunities. That is why it was even ranked amongst the top ten retailers in the Fortune Magazine's 2010 most admired companies Survey.

Their mission is to help people save big so that they can live a better life. They take this goal very seriously and work really hard in all the markets that they serve, to deliver this promise to their customers. The values and culture of the company, enables it to make a difference in the lives of its customers, members and associates. (Baughman)

Training and development is very necessary for every company who wants to survive and lead in the market. The training and development enhances the performance of the employees through a learning process that includes acquiring knowledge, improving of skills, rules and concepts. It also helps in changing organizational settings by changing behaviors and attitudes of people in the organization. While training helps the employee by improving his knowledge and skills for the job at hand, development of the employees is necessary for future projects.
