Geo-caching is best defined as a modern day outdoor sports activity in which participants of the game use the GPS (global positioning system) device, cell phone or other navigational gadgets and devices to hide and seek different containers with “treasures” in it (Layne, p. 12-31). Or more specifically Geo-caching can be described as a modern-day treasure hunt and scavenger hunt. These are called geo-caches and the participants can hide these containers anywhere in the world. A general type of a typical cache is a small waterproof container that contains a log book in it, in which the geo-cache writes the date and other details along with the standard code name. People who are involved with Geo-caching take it an exciting hobby. In basic words, we can say that it is a modern day “hide and seek”. There are more than five million geo-caches through the world with currently more than 1.3 million active geo-caches throughout the globe in 100 different countries.

Geo-caching is nothing more complicated than hide-and-go-seek for a technologically endowed audience (Graham, p. 3-14). Normally people in their mid-thirties who identify themselves as outdoor oriented, techno savvy, seeking adventure and enjoy solving problems are involved in Geo-caching. Mastering geo-caching is not difficult and, no one should fear getting started, yet someone new to the outdoors and, especially, new to GPs receivers and land navigation will undoubtedly benefit from the forthcoming chapters and some hands-on experience. After a couple of lucrative cache trips, you will be well on your way to becoming an expert at this promising sport.
