What are the problems associated with end of life care within the community in the UK?

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I would take this opportunity to thank my research supervisor, family and friends for their support and guidance without which this research would not have been possible.

ABSTRACT

End-of-life care generally refers to palliative care, care that affords relief, but not cure, to dying patients with no reasonable possibility of cure. End-of-life care becomes an increasingly important issue as Americans more often see patients neither improving nor acutely dying, alive but with a dwindling capacity to recover from their injury or illness. Chronic diseases—such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes—are the leading causes of death and disability in the United Kingdom. These diseases account for 7 of every 10 deaths and affect the quality of life of 90 millionEuropeans. . Table of contents

CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION

Background

End-of-life care generally refers to palliative care, nursing provides the relief, not cure but the dying patient with no reasonable possibility of cure. End-of-life care is an increasingly important topic as a British More often patients neither improved nor acute die, but live with a dwindling capacity to recover from their injury or illness. Chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes, are the leading causes of death and disability in the United Kingdom .

Purpose of the research

The purpose of this literature review is to gain an insight into the use of the Liverpool Care Pathway (LCP) end of life tool. The study will discuss the behaviour of nurses in acute settings and whether they are confident in implementing the Liverpool Care Pathway end of life tool.

Problem statement

The problem statement will be to identify the problems related to the LPC framework and LPC process

Research questions

What are the problems associated with implementing the LCP in healthcare settings in the UK? Would this be suitable?

What are the behavior of nurses in acute settings during the implementation of LPC?

What's the quality of life of patients in the last three days of life?

What's the content of care for patients in the last three days of life?

What's the communication in the last three days of life and the level of bereavement of relatives?

Rationale of the study

These diseases affect at 10 dead and 7 of the quality of life of 90 million Americans. Before the Second World War, deaths from these diseases quickly and especially at home. Since then, advanced medical technology has prolonged the lives of people with these diseases if it can not be cured. In addition, technology is transforming acute disease into a chronic disease. For example, in the early 1980s, the median life expectancy of AIDS are often less than a year, but now follows a chronic illness trajectory. Those living with serious chronic illness at the end of life in general show three types of trajectory function and ...
