Windrush 1948

Introduction

This paper intends to research the history of Windrush in 1948. I have chosen the topic to research about the history of African people in the British.

Research Topic

The MV Empire Windrush was a ship in the symbolic history of immigration and multiracialism of contemporary British society. The Empire Windrush landed on 22 June, 1948, at Tilbury, near London, with 492 immigrants from the Caribbean on board. These passengers constituted the first large group of immigrants from the British West Indies to arrive in the UK after war. Windrush, the first boat of immigrants from the Caribbean, arrived in England in 1948. It represented an important moment for the evolution of the relations between English and the Indians coming from the West. Initially, they had many problems and they have to face very difficult racial issues. Since then, it was necessary to have again here in England some flavours of the West Indies.
