Wireless Security in Enterprise Environment

Abstract

Even though the market of Wireless networks has experienced a handsome growth in the last few years, but the deployment of these devices have been extremely limited inside the organizations. This is a results of the security issues that are present in the current systems, the current system have several security flaws, which is the reason why organizations are resisting the widespread enterprise deployments.

Wireless Security in Enterprise Environment

Introduction

In the modern enterprises, the propagation of the network access methodologies such as; wireless networks, remote access, and broadband access netwroks, from various locations for accessing the office kiosk, has urged the need for the new services (Varshney, 2003). It has become immensely important for the organizations to create and efficient and secure mobile access network for accessing the resources of the company, which are essential for the employees (Varshney, 2003). However, such large scale deployments of the wireless communication prorogates new performance and security related demands for the organization. Under such circumstances the administrators of the company face the ever growing need of protecting the critical resources of the company from all sorts of attacks. This is the main reason why many administrators prefers a controlled access for different resources of the organization, limiting the access to a certain amount of users of the organization, through the creation of unique id, and credential user groups. On such device for providing security in the organization, one of the most used is client devices. The essential components for a wirelss environment in an enterprise consist of:

Networks Access

Wired networks (Internally linked network of the enterprise)

Wireless Area Network and public internet

Wireless access

The network resources

Data centers for supporting the mainframes and the servers present on the network for hosting business applications

A Demilitarized zone for the service that are easily accessible over the internet

Remote access gateways, for supporting the services of the Demilitarized zone of the netwrok
