Postpartum depression is a serious disease that affects up to 60 percent of new mothers. The new mother cannot feel love for your newborn and cannot have the energy to care for the child. They may also suffer from insomnia, overeating or anorexia, hyperventilation. They often feel guilty and worthless because they know they should not feel this way. There is no fixed pattern for those who are more likely to be affected by postpartum depression, but a target group has been receiving much attention lately are the substances of abuse. The articles I looked at discuss current treatments for postpartum women, who also abuse drugs and alcohol and the effectiveness of treatments (Dietz, 2005).

The purpose of the investigation of postpartum depression and treatment is to learn how to better care for women and children. Postpartum depression is a serious disease and without proper treatment and care of children born to women who develop the disease after giving birth can grow without proper care and the most serious cases, some children die from neglect or abuse. Everyone wants to reduce the number of cases of postpartum depression and one way to do is look at existing problems.

Baby Blues, Postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis are associated with being a new mother, however, are three very different types of depression. Baby Blues affects over eighty percent of new mothers who are temporary that lasts about a week and are considered a normal part of early motherhood. Postpartum depression lasts longer and is more strong than the azures. Postpartum psychosis is the most critical pattern of postpartum depression. It is very rare and requires immediate treatment (Dulude, 2000).

Depression is something that we have all experienced at some point and time in our lives, whether for a day or years. Most affected people who are not even aware of the depression created serious complications if they do not admit that they themselves would be clinically diagnosed with depression.
