Introduction

Favoritism is an increasingly important factor in today's work team as work groups become more diverse in terms of gender, nationality, and other personal characteristics of their members. Sometimes the effect of favoritism seems positive, at the other times negative, and in other situations, there may be no effect at all.

An example of favoritism in my organization is age. The age varieties are from 18-85 years of age. The owner of the business is 85 years vintage and comes to work on a normal basis. The age varieties in my department are 23-52 years of age. Age quite often becomes a problem where I work because you are automatically stereotyped. Management often thinks that because you are young you are not dependable. They assume that you will call in a lot, be tardy or just have an immature attitude about work. It is assumed that the older you are the more mature and dependable you will be. This is one of the causes why I accept as true management has to gaze after the stereotypes and allow every person and equal possibilities before assumptions are made.

There are those who accept as true that an older individual can be a hazard to an organization. The pace of an older person can disagree from that of a junior person. There may be other components that can origin an older individual not to perform as well such as hearing and vision. The organization may have to accommodate these kinds of needs. This is not a problem in the department I work in but you can't help but overhear how other departments wish some of their co-workers would retire or move into a slower paced position.

With the ages in my department it's really obvious of the age differences. Some are always talking about going to the club and some talk about making dinner or their favorite television show that comes on that night. This would have a lot to do with your maturity level also. In my organization we do benefit from the diverse age group. Every one of all ages habitually has a little advice to offer. The advice is always different because of the ages and the years they were raised in.

Gender is among the characteristics associated with favoritism and is renowned to influence group behaviors. For demonstration, most women are more snug than men with team-based evaluations and rewards. This may be partly due to causes that most men's relationships are inclined to be characterised by role and rank, while women are inclined to worth connections founded on communication and understanding. While favoritism is affiliated with higher task performance, it has been known to expanded confrontation, connection difficulties, and turnover on teams. For instance, poor sharing of information was the main problem for women, while in the other hand; the main problem for men's was unclear or inappropriate expectations.
