According to Young (1997), second-largest religion in world after Christianity is Islam, with an estimated 1.4 billion supporters called Muslims. The name Islam comes from an Arabic root word meaning peace and submission; therefore, some think of Islam as being religion of peace, while others think of Islam as being submission or compliance to will of God. In either case though, majority of Muslims believe that one can find peace just by submitting to Allah (Arabic root word for God). Considered to be one of Arabic religions, Islam is originated from tradition of Abraham, Hebrew Bible patriarch. The most number of Muslims are found in Indonesia.

Characteristics

The place of worship for the muslims. I collected information from different people and gathered information that, Al-Masjid al-H?aram, known as "The Sacred Mosque." is located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia and is holiest mosque in world, as well as main destination of Hajj pilgrimage for the muslims. It can house up to 820,000 worshippers during Hajj with its area of 356,800 square meters. Al-Masjid al-H?aram has no qibla direction (point toward which Muslims turn to pray). That is due to fact since Muslims pray in front of Ka'ba, which is in central courtyard.

I met poeple who went to Al-Masjid al-H?aram and have worshipped there, Abdul Turab. Abdul is 35 years old and is father to 9 year old son named Mir. His wife, also 35, is named Salma. Abdul has been worshipping at Al-Masjid al-H?aram throughout his entire life. I learnt different aspects of mulim religion from religious books and the gathered information. With defining Islamic religion, However, Abdul defines Islamic religion as not just merely religion, but also as state philosophy. It fills every aspect of social cooperation and civilization. He says that it exists everywhere, is missionary, an organizing principle, story, viewpoint, value system, and handbook. As religion though, Abdul says Islam is monotheistic religion described by approval of doctrine of obedience, to God and to Muhammad, as chief and final prophet of God.

The important holidays and traditions of Islam that Abdul talks about are Al-Hijra: Islamic New Year, Ramadan: Month of Fasting, 'Eid Al-Fitr: Festival of Breaking Fast, 'Eid Al-Adha: Festival of Sacrifice, and Ashura: Remembering Shiite Martyr Husayn.
