     Devotional sect of Mahayana Buddhism in China and Japan, centering on adoration of the Buddha Amitabha (in Japan furthermore renowned as Amida). According to the Pure Land Sutras, created in India in the 2nd 100 years A.D., Amitabha promised to save all sentient beings by allocating them rebirth in his realm, the "Western Paradise," a untainted land endowed with miraculous characteristics double-checking its inhabitants so straightforward application into nirvana.
