Abstract

The rapid changes in climate mean that the geography of future will not be the same as the geography of yesteryears. The global warming issue of today is seen as the result of the many variations in earth's climate and temperature over the years. The melting of ice, glaciers and ice caps has several implications. This is set to cause a thaw in the rivers and lakes and organizations such as NASA and others will have to take necessary actions for it. Hurricanes, sandy storms and others are reflective of the rising sea levels. The depth of the topic as well as its width must be understood from the fact that it covers not only the effect but also goes back to study the reasons why the climatic changes are taking place. Aside from the economic development plans that have to be devised for future, there are economic hardships that nations have to face as a result of natural catastrophes that befall them. Floods, droughts and hurricanes are all causes of climate changes in earth. When there is food shortage in a certain region because of drought, there is an increase in hunger. Using alternative sources of energy can help save the world for our future generations.

Effects of Climate Change on Sea Ice, Glaciers, Polar Ice Caps

Introduction

The rapid changes in climate mean that the geography of future will not be the same as the geography of yesteryears. There are many causes of the changes in earth's climate, some of which are quite complex. Over a period of years, the earth has not had only had episodes of warming but also episodes of cooling. The issues of climate change today relate to global warming. Global warming means that the overall temperature of the earth is rising. This has an impact on sea ice, glaciers and polar ice caps (McKie, p. 11). In particular, the ice in the arctic region has declined considerably over time. This rise in temperature started in the year 19th century and has continued since.

The global warming issue of today is seen as the result of the many variations in earth's climate and temperature over the years. There are many evidence of global warming which may serve as a warning for the concerned authorities. To begin with, it must be understood that the global warming as of today is driven by humans themselves. The oceans of the world have become warmer, the level of ice has decreased, the glaciers are ever melting, people are altering their habitat and all this is affecting both plants and humans on earth (NRDC, p. 2).

The melting of ice, glaciers and ice caps has several implications. This is set to cause a thaw in the rivers and lakes and organizations such as NASA and others will have to take necessary actions for it. Hurricanes, sandy storms and others are reflective of the rising sea levels.

Some of the major causes of global warming include the emission of greenhouse gases which may be ...
