African American Family and Their Struggle to Survival in Today's World

Introduction

The world is a mix of cultures. There are many minority cultures in America including African American, Asian, or Hispanics etc. They are widely differentiated on the basis of socio-economic status, time in the U.S, gender and age, educational level and many other factors. African American families have many similar features to those families that live in the US; however there are many factors that make them distinctive from others.

Point of differentiation

There are many factors that differentiate the African American Families from other cultures of that are. The dynamics and structure of a normal African American Families is dependent of the cultural practices that are adopted from the West Africa. Their quality of life and their way of living is highly adapted from the West African culture.

Another reason of their distinct family structure is the Structural adaptation to slavery which they have been following since a long time. They have always been discriminated on the basis of their color and race. This has also affected in developing their way of spending the life. They have faced economic inequalities in their professional and educational life. Most of them continue to face the same thing based on what their ancestors have been facing.

They have different practices. For example, the principles that they follow when it comes to the marriage of their children are very different from people of other culture which include the age and time as well. They have different ideas regarding the formation of a family, the distinctive predefined gender roles, the way of upbringing their children and many other things (Alfred, 2009)

African American society

African American society in the United States incorporates the different social customs of African ethnic assemblies. It is the part of American society which is very different from it. It is characterized as the individuals who have their roots in any of the Black race gatherings of Africa. The way that they started to live was very difficult for them. Hey were used as slaves at that time because of their poverty and low status.

They were restricted to practice their own culture in America. Despite all these facts, they have managed to keep up their values and beliefs. It is a kind of astonishment of researchers and analysts that, beside all these facts, they have been able to protect their values and incorporate them in the European American culture (Alfred, 2009).

The fact that they were criticized and stopped from doing certain acts, made them even stronger. They made a new and prominent identity out of everything that pushed them back like slavery. They utilized those things to make a group character throughout that time.
