Introduction

The study relates to the attitudes of Afro-American people towards mathematics. In particular, the main objective of the study is to diagnose the attitudes, motivations and also the barriers that Afro-Americans face while learning, practicing or understanding mathematics.

Discussion

Among Afro-Americans, there are four main attitudes towards mathematics, as well as to any other science. Probably the most common attitude can be described as pragmatic escapism. It involves the avoidance of mathematics, such as fire and reducing the arithmetic grown used to having on everyday purchases. It is noted that Afro-Americans admit that they are not specialists in mathematics and that in their opinion they do not prefer taking any intellectual effort for mathematics. Such an attitude does not make life easy in today's world. Pragmatic escapism even makes it difficult for Afro-Americans in completing tax returns sheets. Moreover, understanding some of the mathematical concepts, it can also stimulate a critical attitude to mathematics. Presenting a variety of mathematical problems from a new perspective, both those Afro-Americans familiar with the school and the completely unknown, it may be helpful for Afro-Americans who prefer to understand mathematics than to memorize (Bramlett, 16-58).

The second attitude of Afro-Americans towards mathematics can be called somewhat perversely loyalty. Loyalists generally learn math readily, and at the same time carefully, often their professional work is closely related to this field of study. Some have impressive knowledge and skills; in this context, the essence of loyalty is absolute obedience to the law. Quite a common symptom of mathematical loyalty among Afro-American is succumbing to fads and conceited delight customs practiced mathematics in English speaking countries.
