Introduction

The alcoholism is widespread. She is the most momentous and addiction is one of the third largest causes of death in the United States of America (Pence, pp 198 - 201). However, not only the direct effects of alcoholism are significant, the indirect must be mentioned: Many killed in traffic caused by alcohol and many children born with birth defects because their mother is an alcoholic, be considered as indirect victims (Hedblom, pp 98 - 101). The consequences of alcoholism are serious health problems and the psychological and social consequences of the addiction. In principle, it should be mentioned that even people who drink large amounts of alcohol only occasionally, so that their bodies harm.

In particular, the liver gets damaged by alcohol metabolism in the long run: fatty liver, liver swelling to liver cirrhosis is the result. In women, the liver is more vulnerable, because hormones inhibit rapid degradation of alcohol (Pence, pp 198 - 201). Furthermore, the brain suffers under higher concentrations of alcohol - millions of brain cells are destroyed per alcohol intoxication (Hedblom, pp 98 - 101). This leads to memory problems, concentration difficulties and later a reduction of intelligence and possible dementia. It can cause inflammation in various organs due to alcohol intake, and the risk is at a throat, mouth, esophagus and larynx cancer diagnosed at later. In addition, alcoholics change in their personality: they are often aggressive, among other things, unreliable, depressed and irritable (Pence, pp 198 - 201).

Effects of Alcoholism on Body

Alcoholism has physical and psychological components or both together. There are cases where people can drink alcohol without becoming addicted, but usually that does not happen. Most people who drink excessively end up getting addicted (Galanter, pp 120 - 123). The addiction is evident physically, which is visible in the form of changes in physical appearance of the person. It is obvious as it is associated with certain diseases caused by alcohol intake. Sometimes a person starts drinking due to the social or customs habits acquired without beginning to realize the aftereffects. 

Among the characteristics that produce alcohol in the body is the direct effect on the nervous system, which results in psychological consequences such as depressed mood, changing behavior of the individual making him hostile and even leading to destruction. The concentration and reaction time to a stimulus decreases (Leny, pp 78 - 79). Other consequences of alcohol in the body are the deteriorating of the gastrointestinal tract due to nausea and vomiting caused by alcohol in the stomach walls (Pence, pp 198 - 201). Other affected include the assimilation of vitamins as it is almost impossible to perform producing nutritional repercussions. It also affects the cardiovascular system, sexuality and may appear to disrupt the normal mental stability of a drinker (Hedblom, pp 98 - 101).

Effects of Alcoholism on Mind
