In our presidential administrations (Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Madison) we attempted to gain respect internationally. Some of our efforts were successful and others were not. Analyze and evaluate the job of the first four administrations in regards to foreign policy. Be sure to include in your evaluation the problems that were faced, countries that were involved and our particular strategy in that situation. You need to discuss at least two of the foreign policy events from the administrations.

Washington was the first unanimously elected presented and used the power of veto. He put down the Whiskey Rebellion and led the Continental Army in the American War of Independence. Adam's second president from the Federalist Party. He signed Alien and Sedition Acts, he appointed several judges at the last hour of his office. Adam had a rivalry with Jefferson who was from the opposition party. It was due to Adam's negotiation in the Treaty of Paris that ended the American Revolution. Jefferson became the president and was from the Democratic - Republican Party. He acquired the Louisiana Purchase, highlighted the XYZ Affair, organized the Lewis and Clark expeditions and opposed slavery but he himself owned slaves. The biggest achievement of Jefferson is that he drafted and signed the declaration of Independence. Madison became the fourth president and he was called as The Father of the Constitution due to his influence on the fundamental laws of the country. He declared the famous War of 1812 on Great Britain and re-treated the state of Washington with the American Army as the city was attacked by the British Army. He approved the Treaty of Ghent that led to the end of the 1812 War.
