Abstract

There are many languages that are spoken and understood all over the world. Many of these languages are regarded as the international languages and are understood and spoken in many other parts of the world. . In the past there has been many reforms in many countries for the deaf people so there has been many laws and the legislative reforms that has been passed in order to consider American Sign Language (ASL) as one of the foreign languages. In the recent trends it has been found that many countries have regarded ASL as the foreign language and has legally allowed in their curriculum to be used as an international language. The main purpose of this paper is to find and express the reasons why ASL is being widely adapted by the students as a foreign language. Little is known about the sign language in the U.S. for periods. Little knowledge and information is present on the choosing ASL as a foreign language for some students and what are the reasons that students are selecting ASL over other foreign language options. This study aims to find the role that has been played by the ASL as a foreign language and the reason why the students are selecting ASL over other options of foreign languages. The study will be based on the proper research method and the results will be based on statistical analysis of the research question from the questionnaire distributed among the participants of higher class students.

This study is based on the analysis that will present the role of American Sign Language and the importance it has gained in the past few years. It has been found that the student now opt for ASL as the chosen Foreign Language. The purpose of this dissertation was to find the how the sign and the visual language can obtain benefits for the students in different academic levels. The main focus of this research is to emphasis on the benefits that are being observed by the ASL to the hearing students.
