Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways. It is manifested by attacks of breathlessness, wheezing, nocturnal and often reversible, either spontaneously or as a result of treatment. It is a multifactorial syndrome, whose expression depends on acquired factors often related to the environment. Specific factors (such as allergy) are associated with other non-specific (such as pollution or tobacco), and modulate non-specific bronchial hyperresponsiveness. Asthma affects all age groups but often starts in childhood.
