Introduction

Pablo Ruiz Picasso spent his early live as an Andalusian citizen, and then he moved to Barcelona. ??His father was a mentor at the School of Fine Arts or Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Pablo Picasso belongs to artistic movement of Cubism that ranges in the 1908-1920 period. The first phase of this movement is referred to as “Analytical Cubism” and it is concerned with fragmenting the image and presenting it in multiple facets. The second phase is the Synthetic Cubism that incorporates random collection of the artists (Barr 1936).

When Picasso settled in Paris in an old building, he met his first companion, Fernande Olivier (Richardson 2007). He developed a happy relationship with Fernande, and altered his palette to pinks and reds. It is for this reason that the years 1904 and 1905 are regarded as pink period of painting. His themes are focused on the circus world, who visited with great regularity, creating works such as Acrobat Family. In the stature of the harlequin, Picasso painted his amended ego, an application that was also repeated in ensuing works (Walther 2000).

Analysis and Interpretation of Work

Bust of Woman, 1907

Picasso took and a large number of preparatory studies in completing this work. It is one of the founding works of modern art. The portrait lies at the junction of the stylistic orientations. The figure of woman is so ambiguous that it seems as if the painter had moved freely around the subject, gathering information from different viewpoints and angles. The effect of relief that it suggests, without resorting to traditional modeling perspective, reflects the painter's desire to sacrifice the real use of pictorial solutions.

The inflation adjusted price for this painting could be around $80-90 million (Michaud 2010). It is difficult to say this would be a good investment, as the painting was probably designed as an inspiration for Cubism movement, which now is less popular so to ...
