Van Gogh's Starry Night

Starry piece has been painted by Van Gogh in the year 1889. He made this piece with the help of his memory. This art work is one of his famous and elusive works. The painting shows overwhelming sky in the night, which acts as a background of the painting with wavy motion which merges at the centre to form a spiral like formation. The fiery-yellow stars seem like big sized fireballs shows the illumination of this art work and it has been contrasted with the cool blue, night-sky with an amazing variety of grey and blue shades. In addition, the artists has painted a crescent moon on the top right-hand corner which radiates brighter and orange light from the stars. A huge cypress bush in the forefront blocks the view of village and night sky partially. The village has a quaint architecture without any light illuminating the village which gives the impression of that all people there are asleep probably (www.vggallery.com).

Painting Technique

The brush strokes are heavier and thicker, which gives an insistent and hectic rhythm to the painting. As a result, this art work has an illusion of consistently in motion.

The artists painted this painting with the mental image and it is a contributing factor for this illusion together with an emotional intensity and greater mental dislocation.
