Because the fact that power sector of any region in the world can't be ignored, never-ending power annoyance has been a part of the curse within the development of Nigeria. It is observed that the consumer's power needs are not fulfilled entirely. INTRODUCTION

In this paper we will be we will be focusing towards the power supply of Nigeria, since this is the main source for providing the basic utilities towards the consumers. A significant shortage has been observed in this area since the consumers are not able to receive the desired amount of electric supply needed. In the development of any country in the world the power sector plays a significant role in maintain the regions economic and social development. And particularly for Nigeria there have been power problems since the last three decades that is becoming a problem in the economical development of the country which is also resulting in a number of problems due to the decaying facilities, distribution and generation of power. All these problems have aroused prior to and right after the independence of the country.

This country has a population of around 140 million citizens according to the “CIA World Fact book, 2008. In the year 2001, Nigeria just had the capacity of power generating of approximately 1400MW. That leaves a standard power of around ten watts per individual. In the year 2007 it got better just to 1600MW, the exceptional adviser for the Nigerian President regarding the electric supply currently stated: “In spit of the big amount of $6.3 billion swallowed by the sector among 1999 to present, Nigeria could barely produce thirty watts of electricity per Individual”. Generally the consumers are observing the lack of power supply as the outcome of decreased production capacity. Nevertheless, the distribution facilities and breakdown of transmission indirectly or directly resulted towards power interruptions.

Problem Statement

The problem existing in this area of study is that the attitude of the consumer is observed to be negative since they are not provided with the adequate amount of power supply. The perceived role and history of the power supply through out the post and pre colonial era was the service utility. There existed an obvious lack of call for insight or futuristic planning or best business practice and attention towards improving the access of consumers. So the problem in this study is already visible that there is insufficient power supply for the population of Nigeria to meet their daily requirement. Production of power, distribution and transmission networks through out Nigeria are in such a poor form that just thirty percent of the Nigerians have the access of electricity. The problem of power supply is so critical that the Federal Government proposes towards declaring the state of emergency within the power ...
