In the end, the report also throws light on the specific use of this system by the companies for the purpose of collection. There are certain instructions as well which should be taken in consideration while making repetitive calls to debtors.

Conclusion

In most jurisdictions, debt collectors and creditors have the right to contact the debtor for the purpose of collecting debts. However, in UK, there is a law against harassment by debt collectors. If consumers are being harassed by debt collectors, one of the most important things consumers can do is to learn from the laws in their area. The law prohibits debt collectors from harassing by calling several times and at inopportune moments. Debt selectors have the right to call, but not to harass them by calling at night or early in the morning or call more than three times a week. When consumers are subjected to harassing behavior by any means like continuous calls, silent calls or by automated dialer system, then consumers or general public will be able to inform debt collectors that they are violating harassment laws. If consumers have experienced repeated phone calls from a debt collector or an automated system, they should find a lawyer to protect them from harassment.

If consumers have been harassed in the collection, they can sue the debt selector. Federal and state law protects people against unfair and deceptive debt collection. The Protection from Harassment Act 1997 is the law that protects consumers all over the UK. This law restricts companies to a certain percentage of calls per day and allows individuals to sue debt collectors for his misconduct.

It should be noted that many lawyers working on the basis of a contingency fee. This means that consumers will not pay money up front. The law also allows the company to pay legal fees.
