Introduction

Abraham Lincoln, America's 16th President, is considered to be one of the greatest Presidents of the United States of America. He defeated the Confederates and led the Republicans Party. The party was a strong organization on national level and worked strongly to abolish the system of slavery that existed within the boundaries of Confederacy. The following paper identifies the leadership roles that Abraham Lincoln has played during his reign and how he contributed to a better State through the distinctive feature of leadership philosophy.

The qualities of Abraham Lincoln

Lincoln was a man who was capable to accept different viewpoints and listened to everyone's views and opinions. During the Cabinet meetings, he always established a climate which could disagree on the plan without any fear of oppression or retaliation. On the other hand, he knew when the discussion should end and what opinions must be considered in order to come to the conclusion (Gale Reference). He was observant of the errors and learnt from his mistakes and established a learning culture during his Presidency.

Lincoln always shared the credits of victory with everyone who was involved initially and was ambitious about the success of others. Similarly, when mistakes occurred, he stood up for his Party. Lincoln was however aware of the fact that he often gave room to the weaknesses of others and let go (Credo Reference). He gave them too many chances and compensated them for their weaknesses. When faced with anger and agitation, he used to control his emotions by sending a hot letter to the individual behind his anger. He used to set it aside and never send it.

He knew that humor and relaxation were equally important. Therefore, he used to relax and prepare himself for the next day. He used to tell funny stories to his people and always encouraged a laughing environment during his administration (Korn, 2007). After Civil War, there were many problems. For visiting relations with the troops, he visited hospitals to raise people's morale. He made sure that matters were made simpler and he always communicated his plans to his people, concerning about the citizens. After his victory in the reelections, he did not bring the victory into focus and expressed his gratitude and concern for bringing people together as he states that everyone must rise above malice for each other and work for each other's benefits and fight for the poor (Guelzo, 2005). “Even after being rejected twice, he continued to run for the positions in Senate, and this paid off as he was selected as the President of America. He acquired his position with the aim of abolishment of slavery in U.S, and continued to chase his goal and never gave up. Although he graduated with a normal schooling, he was full of desires to learn and grow and showed his immense interested in reading about wars.
