Bullying in Children

1.0 Introduction

The study conducted on bullying revealed different definitions of it, but there is no appropriate definition of bullying. However bullying can be described as typical form of repeated behavior directed at an individual that lead to emotional or physical harm to that individual. The bullying normally takes places between people with imbalanced powers. Stronger use their power to bully the weaker ones. There are few essential components of bullying. The first essential component is the intention to provide harm to other for example teasing or physically hurting someone. This results in harmful outcome as one or more people faces physical or emotional harm. The bullying can occur directly such as by physically hurting someone, and it can also occur indirectly for example by spreading rumors. The bullying normally takes place between the people having unequal. There are different types of bullies such as cyber bully, physical bully and verbal bully etc (Rigby, 2010).

Research shows that 28 percent of the children face bulling in their schools or any other point of their lives. 38 percent of the disabled children are worried of getting bullied. So bullying in school is a serious issue which should be addressed and discussed these days. Bullying seriously affects the mental and physical health of children and many children have also tried to suicide just because of bullying. There is various sort of bullying that have over lasting effects over the children which also affects the learning process of the children. The schools, parents and the civil societies should play an important role to address and control the bullying as this is increasing day by day (DeVoe, et.al, 2011).

In this paper, we will focus over the effects of bullying on the development of the children. Bullying adversely affects the psychological and physical health of children. The different types of bullies are also discussed however the focus is made over the cyber and physical bullying. Case related to the bullying in schools have also been discussed and their effects on children. Different methods and techniques have been laid down in this paper which must be adopted to effectively control the bullying.

2.1 Impact of bulling in children's development

Children who are a victim of bullying face different mental and physical problems which effect their development a lot. Children who face bullying are normally anxious, insecure and face the problem of low esteem. They lose their confidence and avoid defending themselves from other children bullying them.
