Critical thinking is to analyze and assess the consistency of the arguments, particularly those statements that society accepts as true in the context of everyday life. This assessment can be conducted through observation, experience, reasoning or the scientific method. Critical thinking requires clarity, accuracy, fairness and evidence, as it tries to avoid the particular impressions. In this sense, it is related to skepticism and the detection of fallacies. Critical thinking is said to entail a set of skills that work in combination (paul & elder, 2002, pp. 23-34).
Why use critical thinking?
Using critical thinking involves an effort, because we have to bother thinking, seeking information, analyzing and coming to a conclusion that, in addition, may go against the norms and the culture of the people around you. So one tends to ponder over the fact that why should one undergo the hassle of critical thinking and go against the norms of an organization or a culture?
Undoubtedly, this position is comfortable and easy, but one tends to become dependent on others. It tends to prevent one from practicing critical thinking. Furthermore it also tends to prevent one from expanding the knowledge and in turn is said to deprive one from having a mental exercise that aids in involving one's mind in cognitively developing set of ideas and turning them into intangible actions and them analyzing the set of results that are being forecasted. If critical thinking does not take place it is then when one is deprived of a important source of satisfaction and self-esteem that comes from completion of a task based on your critical thinking. Every time a person uses his mind is getting so small accomplishment. And those achievements are those that raise our self-esteem and make us feel proud of ourselves, independent and strong (Moon, 2012, pp. 12-29). Thus, critical thinking is much more than using the mind, is a way to make you feel better and more resilient in a healthy way and not artificial. Critical thinking is said to be characterized by the following:
Rationality
One tends to think critically when one relies on reasoning rather than relying solely on emotion. It tends to require evidences where by all known evidences are made use of completely. Evidences tend to lead one towards a track and that track needs to be followed. It is then when one tends to find the best explanation in relation to the question at hand and it is more important to analyze and be right then being right solely (Rainbolt & Dwyer, 2011, pp. 103-109).
Self-awareness
When it comes to critical thinking one has to weigh in the influences that are related to bias and motives. One also tends to have recognition of one's assumptions, biases, prejudices as well as a particular point of view (Facione, 1998).
Honesty
One tends to think critically when one tends to have recognition of impulses that are emotional, nefarious purposes, selfish motives as well as other modes that are related to the concept of ...
