The reason for the failure of the research was the observation of the differences between the two aspects of strategic and operational planning, where both of the concepts are integral and associated with each other, hence defining their differentiation aspects can lead to a huge mistake. As managers are concerned with the tactical and the strategic operations of the organizations, the plans and programs must be related and associated to each other in order to achieve optimization (Todtling & Trippl, 2005). Here, the tactical aspect focuses on the plans and programs for the current processes and to achieve outputs, keeping the short term view in mind. On the other hand, strategic planning is concerned with the future to think about the long term objectives and retain the competencies to stay competitive. 

It has been observed that managers do not give much importance to strategically and tactically planning the success of their business. The reason for this is their unawareness of how easy it is to devise a plan and then implement in the organization (Todtling & Trippl, 2005). It has also been observed that when managers hear about the aspects of strategy and tactics, it often scares them. But, if the managers understand the simpler tasks and identify the easiness attached, managers can prove to reap better results at the end (Todtling & Trippl, 2005). It has also been seen that few of the managers are often not aware of the terms and these terms and programs leave them in a state of confusion. The reason being these terms are related to each other and often used interchangeable.

Tactical planning is often known as short range planning which lays emphasis on the current operations of the organization in various departments. Short range is a period that usually extends from months to less than a year. Managers often opt for tactical programs and plans to identify and outline the current operations for the organization and what the organization must do in the span of a year (Heunks, 1996, pp. 263-272). These plans are generally considered to be useful for the departments of production, marketing, personnel and finance. 

Tactics here are involved in the sense that tactical planning identifies what tactics shall be played for the implementation of the strategy. The actions are determined that define what should be done, the specific order to carry out the actions and identify which tools and personnel must be used to in order to come up with positive results (Heunks, 1996, pp. 263-272). A number of tactics are deployed with the involvement of various departments and functions for reaching the common goal of the organization. Sometimes organizations also employ the services of external stakeholders like suppliers and customers for the accomplishment of the objectives.
