Introduction

Nike, Inc. is an American company, the world-famous manufacturer of sports clothing and footwear. Its headquarters is in Beaverton (State of Oregon). According to analysts, the share of Nike accounts for almost 95% of basketball shoes in the U.S. In 2008, the company employed more than 30,000 people worldwide. Brand valued at $ 10.7 billion and is the most valuable brand in the sports industry. The company was founded January 25, 1964 under the name Blue Ribbon Sports, and officially became Nike, Inc on May 30, 1978. There have been allegations against the company related to the use of child labor in the manufacturing of the goods of the company.

Company Policy Against Child Labor

In its Code of Conduct prohibits Nike the employment of under 16 year olds, and from people who are still subject to state's own laws of compulsory education or work not been allowed. Hazardous work is prohibited for under 18 year olds. Should cases of child labor are uncovered, the company standard provides two interalia, financial support of those affected, to enable them to school.

In the 90s, there was a scandal related to the disclosure of working conditions in the factories of local contractors working on the orders of Nike. Among other things, in factories sewing Nike shoes in Indonesia, workers' rights were not respected on working conditions, health and safety and wages.
