CHAPTER 04: DISCUSSION AND ANALYSIS

4.1. Questionnaire Analysis

This section of the research study incorporates the analysis of the survey questionnaire and it interprets the responses of the participants who participated in the study. This section provides the tables and graphical representations for the responses of the participants.

Care Complexity Scale

Figure 1: How many patients on your unit require skilled assessment by an RN more than once every hour?

The above table represent the responses of the participants regarding the statement “How many patients on your unit require skilled assessment by an RN more than once every hour?” From the total of 50 participants, 24 percent of the respondents said a few (< 20percent). 48 percent of the participants said some (31-40 percent). 22 percent of the participants said about half (41-60 percent). 2 percent of the participants said many (61-80 percent). 4 percent of the participants said most (more than 80 percent). Therefore, maximum number of respondents said that the some (21-40 percent) of the patients on their unit require skilled assessment by an RN more than once every hour.

Figure 2: How many patients on your unit require the use of technical equipment?

The above table represent the responses of the participants regarding the statement “How many patients on your unit require the use of technical equipment?” From the total of 50 participants, 20 percent of the respondents said a few (< 20percent). 52 percent of the participants said some (31-40 percent). 18 percent of the participants said about half (41-60 percent). 8 percent of the participants said many (61-80 percent). 2 percent of the participants said most (more than 80 percent). Therefore, maximum number of respondents said that the some (21-40 percent) of the patients on their unit require the use of technical equipment.

Figure 3: How many patients on your unit have complex problems that are not well understood?

The above table represent the responses of the participants regarding the statement “How many patients on your unit have complex problems that are not well understood?” From the total of 50 participants, 20 percent of the respondents said a few (< 20percent). 44 percent of the participants said some (31-40 percent). 30 percent of the participants said about half (41-60 percent). 12 percent of the participants said many (61-80 percent). Therefore, maximum number of respondents said that the some (21-40 percent) of the patients on their unit have complex problems that are not well understood.

Figure 4: How many patients on your unit require frequent monitoring (e.g., daily weights, I&O, vital signs, blood glucose checks?

The above table represent the responses of the participants regarding the statement “How many patients on your unit require frequent monitoring (e.g., daily weights, I&O, vital signs, blood glucose checks?” From the total of 50 participants, 30 percent of the respondents said a few (< 20percent). 36 percent of the participants said ...
