Introduction

As my resume also indicated that I am a person with management sciences (MBA) Background. But no matter which field you belong it is equally important to make a good career plan. A career plan will help me to better emphasize towards one key area and that clarity in purpose will allow me to prosper and shine in a much better manner (Office Solutions, 2000, pp.11-11).

My Career Plan-The Basics

One's career can be compared to a military battle or a sporting event. If an individual is to win his or her career race he or she must have a plan. The first axiom in the career journey is to recognize that individuals are completely on their own when it comes to their career plan. Most companies can no longer offer employees a career plan just based on employees doing a good job. Individuals should be interested and learn about the other disciplines in their firms so that they can continue to broaden rather than deepen their backgrounds. One of the most critical factors in being recognized and succeeding in a company is attitude. It is key that before individuals put their career plans into action, they perform a personal appraisal and ask themselves such questions as: 1. Am I generally optimistic about all aspects of my life? 2. Do I look at problems as potential opportunities?

The Mission

Our careers can be compared to a military battle or a sporting event. It is easier to see the outcome of a master game plan in sports. The game is "played out" in nine innings, four quarters, or five hundred laps. We rejoice when an athlete executes a plan to perfection when many options are available; and conversely, assail them when they fail to deliver.

In our careers, we are no different from the professional athlete that we root for. We wear a uniform, are a part of a team, and take risks. If we are to win our career race we must come to the start line with a plan. Our plan, unlike a sporting event or battle, does not have an immediate outcome. It can, however, be planned with the same intensity. Specifically, the following major topics will be addressed:

Our careers should be a planned series of focused positions to achieve a goal that we control. The operative words are planned and control. If we allow our career destiny to pass from our hands to our companies, we are taking an inordinate amount of unnecessary risk. In our attempt to improve our odds of career success and job stability we are becoming very technically competent. However, we are reading and learning less and leas about career management techniques. Our collective book shelves have a dearth of career enhancements books in it.
