Abstract

Popularity of cell phones has grown tremendously over the past few years. People of different ages use cell phones with different preferences. Cell phone addiction is at its peak these days. This paper tends to examine how this growing trend of Nomo phobia is influencing person's health. Users are addicted to cell phones to the extent that they are actually not interested in their personal health. Teenagers in the US believe that they can do nothing without cell phones. The cell phone usage in the work site has adverse affects on the workers focus, attention, safety, and efficiency and production level. It is also a threat to the privileged company's privacy and their internal communication.

Introduction

Cell phone addiction can be defined as continued involvement with one's cell phone despite of knowing the negative consequences associated with it. A user can use his/her cell phone while doing almost anything and he/she gets so used to of using cell phones while doing some other work simultaneously that it becomes a normal activity for them and they do not even realize that involvement with their phone is becoming an addiction. Staying connected is becoming an obsession for a growing number of people these days. Cell phones are now even termed as “the new cigarettes”; seeing as how people use them in elevators, take “cell phone breaks” on the job, chat away while driving, walking, eating (Park, 2006).

Negative Consequences of Cell Phone Addiction

While cell phones have proved to be extremely important and useful mode of communication, there are some negative effects associated with them. Many people still think that cell phone addiction is harmless but there are number of ways in which this addiction can cause great problems to those who are addicted as well as to those around them or related to them. Cell phone addiction is becoming a major serious problem in teenagers over a past few years. Being emotionally attached to your cell phones, fear of losing it, skipping meals to pay its bills, avoiding sports and other healthy activities just to stay connected with the phone and most importantly neglecting your close relationships are some of the most important issues related to the excessive use of cell phones. Broadly, cell phone addiction can affect a person's health, his/her social life and can also create worksite problems.

Health Affects

The first and most important side-effect of using cell phones excessively is related to one's health. Health must not be risked for the sake of communication. The human head is believed to absorb part of the electromagnetic radiations which is very serious issue. The most commonly known health problems associated with cell phones are;

The most rapidly increasing phobia in the world is related to cell phones i.e. Nomo phobia. Nomo phobia is the fear of being without your cell phone or the fear of losing it.
