Abstract

There has been a massive influx of technological devices in the context of our society today. One of the most innovative and contemporary technologies ruling the societies today are the cell phones. Cell phones have completely transformed the way society functions and thus the communication barriers have been eliminated to a considerable extent. Most of the teenagers today look to interact with their relatives and well wishers through their cell phones and do not rely on physical interactions. We have looked to assess the major changes taking place within societies with the increased emergence of cell phones.

Introduction

The world has become a smaller place with the rapid advancement in cellular technologies. Telecommunications have become essential in business, education, and various aspects of everyday life. The possibility of instant communication between people or systems, in places geographically distant, is changing how society relates. However, this sector is undergoing rapid and considerable changes. In this context, some of the important processes, such as globalization, technological developments, breaking government monopoly in the industry, changes economic conditions in USA and in the world, and especially changes in society itself are evident (Goggin, 2012).

Do you have a friend or loved one who has moved away from you? There is no problem in staying in touch with them. Call grandchildren and keep in touch, even if they can not find them often has made life easier grandparents. Across the seven seas to talk with a loved one is now child's play. The scene only about a decade ago was such where international calls were a big deal and a question of expense. Cheaper calls made communication more affordable and efficient.

Discussion

Many of the earlier research studies indicate to the fact that mobile phone use is determined by the social and cultural environment. In such a scenario, there is an occurrence of appropriations and re appropriations within this technology on a global scale. It was precisely such findings that motivated my interest in pursuing the possible similarities and specificities of contemporary culture in appropriation of a global technology, expressed in terms of their social and cultural aspects (Huang, & Truong, 2008).

Nowadays, the function of the cell phone, different from conventional phone is monitoring and no longer seems to be the traditional distinction between private / public. The communication is done quickly and the main function is to identify the user's location and exchange information and summarized. The significance of the phone changed interfering in social habits (Wajcman, Bittman, & Brown, 2008).

Over the last two decades, beginning primarily in the United States and Japan, the globalized world saw the emergence of a social and cultural phenomenon that crosses the contemporary culture such as the widespread use of cell phones.
