Difference between a Mixture and a Compound

Compound and mixture both are chemically made up of few elements. According to chemists both of them are quiet different form each other. According to a mix concept of chemistry as well as of physics the mixture can be a solid, liquid or gas. Similarly compound can be a solid, gas or liquid. Compound can be formed by the resultant of a chemical reaction between two or more elements, it is necessary for a compound to react in such a way that the chemical properties of both the elements change. There are several kinds of elements that are combined with each other and formed a compound. When there is a change occurs in chemical properties of elements than a compound is formed (Johnson, 2002). On the other hand, when the chemical properties of the elements are not change after a chemical reaction than a mixture is formed. If the elements are not chemically bound with each other than it forms a mixture.

Pure Substance: Compound or Element

A pure substance is usually solid. Under that it is then classified as an element or a compound. Looking at the periodic table of elements it can be judged whether it is an element or a compound. A compound is made up of two or more elements. For example, NH3 is a compound because it has nitrogen molecule and 3 hydrogen molecules (Johnson, 2002).

Difference between an Ionic and a Covalent Bond

The ionic bond is an electrostatic interaction. It involves ions. Ions are atoms have one or more electrons to stabilize their outer layer. The ion is warm under the covers but can be attracted by a friend of opposite sign. The covalent bond is a sharing of two electrons between two atoms. They are still warm under the covers, and ...
