Abstract

This study deals with defining the concept and different perceptions associated with the church missions. It is provided that the church plays an important role in achieving the tasks and commandments assigned to it towards the humanity. This study also addresses the basics of understanding the church and mission, therefore, this study assists in developing the grounds for understanding the missions of church. This study also highlights the major difference between the purpose and missions. This study clearly defines the concept of mission in Christianity and its concept as defined in the Bible. This study also highlights the importance of missions of church and it separately discusses the most important concepts and missions of the church. One more important aspect of this research is that, it also provides the contracting views about the mission of the church and reveals that all the tasks performed by the church are very essential in identifying missions of the church.

Introduction

In Christianity, one of the most important concerns associated with the teachings and spreading Gods message is always associated with the church. The mission and purpose for the existence of church is mainly considered as only to provide a platform for the spread of Christianity. If churches are only defined as a place for the teachings and spreading God's message, then it is not sufficient. Throughout the history, churches have major role in defining the life of people and to keep them on the right path. Churches have always served the purpose of soothing and nourishing the souls of man and to purify them. The exact mission or purpose is not defined in the Bible, but there are various verses and Biblical texts which clearly explains the mission of Churches. With the advancement of time, there have been various changes occurred in the modern world. Change in life style and religious practices are the main reason, due to which there are various changes in the mission and purpose of the church.

Defining mission of the church required understanding the reason for existence of church and meaning of church. From the very beginning, it is clear that there is always one major mission in the Christianity, and this is defined in Matthew's Gospel, according to which, one of the most important and fundamental mission of the church is to spread the religion of Christianity through making disciples all over the world. According to Matthew's Gospel, the risen Christ made it clear: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you” (28:19-20). It is not just one example, but there are a number of examples available in the Bible, which reflects the meaning and mission of the Churches.
