Cloud Computing

Name of article: Cloud Computing and its Interest in Saving Energy

Topic studied: Structural Design of Energy-Saving Mechanism

Introduction

The data centre's energy consumption is now becoming an alarming situation for their owners as the energy consumption of the ICT sector is approximately equal to the fuel consumption of the airline industry. The optimisation mechanisms can be used in data centres in order to minimize the energy consumption,( Gartner,2007)

Discussion

Procedure

The structural design of the energy saving mechanism is composed of control loop consisting of three steps that are Monitoring, Reconfiguration and Optimisation. The Monitoring modules interacts with the data centring from where it gets all the updated information which is then transferred to the optimisation module which ranks the applicant's target configurations that are identified after the application of energy saving policies without violating existing SLAs , with respect to their power consumption that are predicted by the Power Calculator module. This module also has the task of forecasting the power utilization of a data centre after a possible reconfiguration option and taking appropriate energy saving decisions for the data centre therefore the prediction's accuracy of this module is very crucial. the results obtained throughout single-site optimisation policies of a private cloud computing data centre are then demonstrated (Quan,Basmadjian,deMeer ,Lent,Mahmoodi,Sannelli,Mezza,Dupont,2011)

Conclusion

The cloud computing data centres are considered as high energy consumers because of powerful ICT Equipments present in their housing but the energy consumption of approximately 20% can be saved with the application of appropriate energy optimisation policies directed through accurate power consumption prediction mode

Name of Article: Flood Modelling for Cities using Cloud Computing

Topic studied: Cloud execution architecture

Introduction

The risk caused by flood can be evaluated with the help of flood models which provide the depth and the velocity of ground water that is generated due to heavy rainfall, Cloud execution architecture is an example of it that helps to simplify the process of performing parameter sweep work on an Infrastructure.( WeiYan,1992)
