Communism and Fascism

Introduction

Today, the term communism is most often used with reference to either the theory by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels or the politico-economic regimes that claimed to use Marxian theory as their foundation. This chapter has four objectives. The first is to briefly summarize the most essential principles and concepts of the original theory as developed by Marx and Engels. The second objective is to outline two interpretations of the Marx-Engels theory, one by Lenin and one by Stalin. The third objective is to compare and contrast the teachings of Mao Zedong 1 with the Leninist ideology. Fourth, some of the theoretical lessons from the Soviet and Chinese experiences with communism will be discussed, along with their possible implications for the international political landscape of the 21st century.

The second reason is that today's neo-liberal ideologues actively distort the real image of fascism, the scrubbing of the essence of it and concentrating the external features so that this label could stick to any society which is unwilling to reveal to the West. As soon as Russia tries to "focus", it will be blackmailed by this label. In mild form, this has already happened during the presidency of Vladimir Putin, but the motor of the campaign so far has worked at idle, and its intensity may increase many times.

Contemporary neoconservatives came into the limelight in the 1970s, but their impetus began earlier. A number of prominent neoconservatives emerged from the Jewish academic-intellectual world disillusioned with the direction of 1960s liberalism. The radical anti-Americanism espoused by some figures associated with the anti-Vietnam War movement deeply offended those later who became known as neoconservatives.

One political theorist who influenced the articulation of the neoconservative philosophy is Irving Kristol, considered the “godfather” of American non-conservatism. Kristol was the managing editor (1947-1952) of Commentary magazine, often referred to as the “neocon bible.” He was the first to formulate the movement's aspirations. In the 1970s, as liberal Democrats took political advantage of the Watergate scandal that brought down the Nixon administration, two forces emerged to foil the American liberal point of view and traditional conservatism: neoconservatives and the religious New Right.

One of the most important concepts with which today provide the manipulation of consciousness in the countries of the European culture - fascism. And at the current perception of the history of the Soviet state had a strong influence held over the last twenty years of broad ideological campaign that asserts its fundamental similarity to the fascist state that emerged in Germany 1933 and liquidated as a result of its defeat in the 2nd World War.
