Cognitive Tutor: Applied Research in Mathematics Education

Steven Ritter has critically described the efficiency of cognitive teaching method in applied research in mathematics education in this paper. From last 25 years, Steven Ritter and a team of mathematician has been working to build the cognitive models in mathematics models. For this, team of researchers has studied on middle and high school student's prospectus. The researchers have extensively discussed the theoretical background and speculated that resulting curricula is more effective rather than other cognitive approaches. They also discussed that how implanting theories of instructional based software has allocated them to obtain and identify dynamic results that have maintained through software's. The effectiveness if these instructions have critically described the effectiveness of previous possible outcomes. The researchers have diagnosed that current widespread usage of software's is allocating researchers to analyze and implement different hypotheses on a large number of students. The main epitome of their research study is to analyze and evaluate the cognitive models of mathematics by using a large number of students from both middle and high level. This approach has highly incorporated and appreciated new approaches that help to maintain strong understanding in between improving criteria and mathematical cognition( Ritter, et.al, 2007).

Research between Development & Research

The strong relationship has marinated in between development and research by targeting the students. The research is based on implementing the cognitive models of mathematics are effective for students. This has sarcastically diagnosed the perception by using multiple practical approaches that help to evaluate the main consequences and effects.

Theoretical Basis

The ACT-R theory has formulated by many researchers that have critically analyzed different concepts that define the efficienc6y of implementing the cognitive models of mathematics in learning outcomes. This initial reflection trying to justify the origin and motivation of this work that is to find the ways in which the Theory of Styles Learning is currently being applied within the scope of Education to foster in students a taste for mathematics.

Mathematics and Learning Styles

As we have noted the work seeks to discern the current state Mathematics Teaching in relation to the Theory of Styles Learning. In particular it was to find studies and research focused on answering the following questions:

What is the relationship between attitudes toward mathematics and mathematics with both students and teachers with their learning styles?

Could we make a difference to the liking of mathematics (with( consequent improvement in math performance) if teachers try to adapt their teaching styles to the styles of student learning?

Among the articles found related to Learning Styles and mathematics, work stands out, and Steven has critically described in his article on Cognitive Tutor: Applied Research in Mathematics Education. Authors argue that knowledge of the learning styles of students is the first step to improve teaching. Therefore, for develop research, first conducted an analysis of the styles Learning high school students through the questionnaire comprised of both in private and in public ...
