COMPUTERS PART OF EVERYDAY LIFE

Science behind Fast Computing

Introduction

As a society, we have made a relatively quick transition from the Industrial revolution right into the Computer Revolution. Not to mention that Computer revolution has completely embraced us as almost every aspect of our lives is directly or indirectly connected to the ever-evolving technology that Computer Revolution brought. Computers can now be found in every aspect of our modern lives. Computer revolution has enabled key technologies in the areas of communication, industry, business, education etc. which has resulted in the enrichment of these fields in terms of efficient and effective operations or customer convenience. Since we are becoming more and more dependent on computers than ever before, we need to have electronic devices that are cheaper, smarter, faster, and smaller. Luckily, Corporations in the field of Information Technology have responded well to our demands and are developing faster and cheaper devices periodically.

Evolution of the semiconductor chip

Semiconductors serve as the backbone for contemporary computing systems. Semiconductors are complex microelectronic circuits made up of a base material with a property of electrical conductivity. The electrical conductivity of this base material is less than a regular conductor but greater than a regular insulator. Typically, chip manufacturers use Silicon as base material, although Germanium is also used. Manufacturers such as IBM, Apple and Intel with the help of their respective chemical engineering teams are sharply focused on developing complex chip manufacturing processes and specialized materials in order to progressively improve the efficiency of semiconductor chips which would result in improved computing power. These manufacturers are seems to be on a constant quest for developing smaller computer components and semiconductor chips that provide broader functionality, greater memory, and ever-increasing speed. These chips are also called processors as they process information and give us the logical results ...
