Congestion Control

Abstract

This paper is based on the congestion in wired networks. It includes the types of wires used in wired networks, its efficiency and their problems. In United States, most of the networks use wired communication because of its reliability and efficiency. Different types of wires are available in the markets which are used for the purpose of networking. Coax and fiber optic cables are the most common types of wires. Fiber optic cable provides high speed for data transfer in comparison with coaxial cable. Other devices like router, switch and networking quality and efficiency also counts in congestion. This paper also includes some congestion prevention technique in wired networks. Nowadays, most of the networks in organizations used wireless technology in order to get rid of wire cost and congestion problem.

Introduction

In any information system, data communication refers to the means and methods used to transfer data between locations. A telecommunications system consists of a set of software and hardware compatible and organized, aimed at the transmission of information (Comer, 2007). All telecommunications system comprises: computers process information; input devices and data output; communication channels employing different communication links, communication processors which provide support functions for transmitting and receiving data, as modems, multiplexers and front-end processors, and communications software that control and manage the network.

With the emergence of computer networks has been no improvement in schools, businesses and governments also. Because it allowed facilities that were previously impossible, and today has become essential in the daily lives of users. A company without a computer network would be virtually chaos. Imagine how uncomfortable it would be when you need to print a document, you have to get up, go to the computer that has the printer installed and printing, or even install a printer for each computer (Peters, 2011). That would be impossible, because it would be too high a cost. Today companies use all the resources that can provide a network from the Internet sharing between computers, hardware resources, information, inventory control, and even up to analyze the situation of the company.

The data communication technology advances quickly. Systems analysts accounts with a variety of tools and technologies to ensure that they can meet the needs of the user in each environment. While the purpose of this work is the analysis of the various linkages to a communication system, it is important the relationship between these networks and, for this reason are treated after work. Although inquire on the aspect of physical links, it is clear that a communication system is composed also by logical links.

A technique used to prevent a congestion has started to become worse is admission control. The idea is simple that once congestion has given some indication of its existence, no other virtual circuit is established until the problem has step (Cisco, 2012). An alternative strategy is to allow new virtual circuits ...
