Introduction

Conservatism and Liberalism, assayed on the political spectrum, are found to be negatively correlated with each other. Conservatives and liberals have fought for decades for the dominance of their ideology to be accepted in the front line. Many countries still follow the ideology based on conservatism while many nations are strongly in favor of promoting liberalism in the respective countries. With globalization, these concepts too have evolved in a considerable manner. The amalgamation of the two ideologies has resulted into an ideology called liberal conservatism. The adoption of this new theory has given positive results to the western nations. Conservatism retains the discipline and order of society. The laws that are enforced on the common people by the higher authority must not suppress the liberty and freedom of individuals living in the society.

Thesis statement

The adaptation of the amalgam of liberalism and conservatism in western nations is beneficial for the positive growth of politics of the nations.

Discussion

Burke was a strong supporter of conservatism. According to him the rights of individuals were the reflection of the society where these individuals live. No society can exploit the rights of individuals in the name of freedom and liberty. At the same time, liberals emphasized the importance of liberalism in an individual's life. According to liberalism, freedom and liberty is the right of every individual in the society. Laws should not enforce on the people at the cost of their freedom and rights.

The political spectrum consists of a continuum that moves from left to right. Amid of this line there lies a difference of opinion. Conservatives and liberalism are scaled at two extreme poles. Liberalism is scaled on the left while conservatism on the very right of the political spectrum.

This spectrum shows how the two theories are oppositely related to each other they are two extreme ends based on different beliefs and school of thoughts.

Conservatism

Conservatism was a reaction against Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal. The father of conservatives was Edmund Burke (1729-97). Conservatism is the supremacy and control of the society by an aristocracy (Agre, 2004, p.1). It is thought to be a destructive system that is found on deception. At present the conservative belief of the ruling is negated by democratic way of governing. According to historical data, the conservatives preferred the restoration of monarchy over democracy (Paterson, 2001, p.5).

Liberalism

Liberal was the word that was used as the aftermath of French resolution. Liberals have greatly discouraged monarch based governance. Liberty in religion, participation of mediocre class in governing sector, changes in reforms has highly been encouraged by the liberals (Paterson, 2001, p.9). Liberalism are a confederacy of partisan from all manners of pragmatic (and irrational) positions. In the 19th century liberalism stood for the rights and freedom of the individual on the basis of economic competence and social efficacy (Rothbard, 2004, p. 7).
