Correlation between Gender and Self Esteem

Introduction

The term self esteem is usually used in psychology; the self esteem basically considered as the complete evaluation of a person's worth. Self esteem is considered as an essential aspect of life which reflects how one deal with things and daily life situation. Every person has his own level of esteem. Many researchers explained the self esteem as it's the person personal concept about what he thinks about himself, it's primarily the evaluation of a person's response towards the positive and negative things.

The level of esteem differs from person to person. The self esteem also differs in genders as well, this can be because of the fact that usually in many families parents gives more importance towards their male child and not on female child and as self esteem depends on the person's life style and emotion level, so due to ignorance self esteem level is generally found to be low in females. Usually in colleges and institutes as well, females are usually treated harshly that eventually become the cause of decreasing their level of esteem and even of decreasing their performance level. The self esteem is the major concern now days and it is important for every person to make efforts in order to increase their esteem level, as the level of esteem helps one to increase its performance level and helps one to communicate easily with the people.

Self esteem in one can be measured by different ways, like self esteem in one can be measured by his leadership and attitude of dealing things.

By previous researches, it is found that leadership qualities are more likely to be found in males than females, and the males are more interested in dealing with leadership tasks. It has been the main topic for many researchers in the past as well because due to the harsh behavior towards the female cause them to differ with males in their esteem levels. The other way to measure self esteem in one is by evaluating one's academic performance. If one is not performing well than other then the performance level of a person who is not able to achieve will eventually get down. By these facts, one can predict that there exists the correlation between gender and esteem levels.
