Abstract

In this study we try to explore the concept of “TV as a cultural forum in 1970s America” in a holistic context. Introduction

Television emerged in the past in the year 1970 to 1980 and it includes major bodies, which include drama, social sciences and journalism. Television represents various culture by showing various programs, which are based, on diverse topics to be addressed. Television plays a pivotal role in our daily life. It has a profound effect on our daily activities and perception making. One of the most important roles of television is broadcasting the news, and how this news does has a tremendous impact on our lives. Television in the US is a powerful information tool which Americans from across the cultural diversity depend on for getting news on social issues, cultural issues, international issues, political issues or religious happenings not only within America but internationally (Tim, 2002). The Television play a prominent role in the lives of Americans that many see it as an opportunity to leverage and seek economic opportunities in Latin America or even out of. Television is the main source of information and entertainment. In fact, on average, Americans are busy people and entertainment can improve their lives, especially when it comes to reducing stress levels. Without proper guidance, professionals in the television cannot be held liable for the obligations and responsibilities. Television is a crucial part of American life in such a way that approaches every American spent on average 8 hours a day interacting with the television. This is demonstrated through the reading of printed material, Internet browsing, listening to radio and watch TV (Evan, 2003).

The question is not whether watching television affects the lives of Americans, but rather how the television affects the lives of Americans. Electronic media/ TV are a major producer of culture because it is considered as one of the main agents of socialization, the transmission of social rules, as well as modification and creation. The relationship between television and culture is twofold: first, the Television are the reflection of a culture, and a player that works in the conservation of the latter, but on the other, Television are involved in the culture, to modify, destroy, create or recreate it. The products of the Television (news, information, entertainment, opinions, and ideas) are commodities, but also social goods and symbolic goods that weave the profile of a society and culture.
