Being the Director of Human Resources and the most senior HR strategist for a national transportation company, I have come up with some suggestions for the betterment of our organization. As we are all aware that our existing President will be retiring in a period of twelve months and that this is the first time the organization has come across a change at the presidential level as this departure was unexpected for several more years. This departure can affect the overall progress and smooth running of the organization in several ways. For that reason, I would like to put forward some strategic human resource practice recommendations about searching for and selecting a new president.

Data Collection

The mission of our organization is to deliver quality transportation services to a remote area in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, with the objective of delivering value to our clients. The corporation identifies the customer's needs and responds with the most cost-effective solution. Our dedication to complete customer satisfaction is reflected in our history of repeat business. We have a proven track record that has been the key to our success.

This is the major responsibility of the President to supervise the delivery of quality transportation in an effective manner. Thus, this task requires dedication and time which would not be given by a president who is retiring in after a year. This job demands an energetic and dedicated individual who can think for the long term growth of the organization

The Role of the President

The success of an organization largely counts on the vision and spirit of its executive leaders, together with the president. If the president fails to execute his vision and the process of an organization's progression stagnates, then action ought to be taken. However, replacing a President demands a majority vote by the board of directors of the organization.

Thus, in our organizations, the role of the President is to take the organization to a lead with certain values and visions that are well understood, widely supported and consistently followed; foster a corporate culture which promotes ethical practices, personal integrity and the fulfillment of social responsibilities; create the appropriate environment to stimulate employee morale and productivity; manage change proactively; ensure continuous improvement in the quality and value of the products and services provided by the corporation; and serve as a director of the corporation.

This job demands enthusiasm and interest to lead the corporation which would definitely be lacking in a person who is retiring in a year.

One more significant job of the president is to advice to the Board on the appointment of all officers of the corporation; assist the Board in establishing the limits of delegated authority and responsibility in conducting the corporation's business; provide the Board evaluations of the performance of each senior manager who reports to the CEO; provide to the Board plans to provide for the development and succession of senior managers of the corporation in a timely fashion; ...
