CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION

Background of the Research

Discrimination has been defined as the act of segmenting and differentiating opinions cognitions, actions and behaviours towards different people or events, based and dependant upon membership or perceived alliance or membership to a specific category, community or a certain group.

Discrimination has been a bone of contention amongst people, societies, countries and regions across the world. Often a topic of endless debate and deliberation, discrimination has been identified as the root cause of the different issues and concerns amongst the list of people management issues highlighted by managers and individuals working within the frame of the organization.

Problem Statement

The problem statement which shall act as the primary force of compiling and completing this research is 'Impact of Discrimination upon the workplace environment'.

Research Aim

The aim of the research undertaken is to highlight and identify the kind of prevalent trends and patterns of behaviours and attitude derived from the realm of discrimination and their influences upon the overall environment and development of the workplace.

Research Questions

Once the research aim has been finalized in terms of initiating the research study, it shall trickle down to smaller, more achievable targets, which could actually make way towards the development and understanding of the research, which shall contribute immensely for a funnel, specific and coherent research study. The research objectives identified with reference to the research are discussed below:

How has discrimination influenced our workforce today?

How significant is the impact of discrimination in our workplace environment?

What factors are responsible for employees to attempt and perform acts of discrimination?

What impact discrimination has upon workplace development and targets?

How can discrimination be, if not completely removed, reduced to a certain extent, which could aid the establishment of a better workforce and a healthier working environment in the organization?

Significance of the Study

With the research study undertaken, it shall aid researchers and readers to understand the prevalent practices which are currently taking place in the organization. In addition to this, it shall also add more to the understanding and comprehension of the prevalent methods which could utilize to reduce the discrimination prevalent, or in some cases, practiced by employees within the organizational frame.

Limitations of the Research

With reference to the research study undertaken, there shall be certain limitation observed. Limitations and restrictions shall be imposed because of two major reasons involved. One is the compliance of the research, which implies that a very focused and concentrated research is underway, which shall help improve the development and understanding of the research. With specific literary findings and research undertaken, it shall actually become even more specific towards completing smaller targets and fulfilling the aim of the research.
