Abstract

Increase in diverse population within a country is becoming a cause of rising diverse workforce in organizations. In order to make be an ethically viable workplace, it is important for organizations to understand the dynamics of diversity and how does it affect the working environment. This paper intends to study the ethical treatment of organization with the help of evaluating merits and demerits of an organization to be a diverse workplace.

Overview of the Issue

The increasing globalization also increases the diversity in the organization. Diversity is defined as the measure differences in the racial, gender, ethnic, graphic, religion, philosophy, culture, academic or social background. Diversity also includes the difference in the age, interest and background of the workforce. People with different background have different skills and hobbies related to the job. They have different opinion, life experience and political belief. In short, diversity includes each and every thing which differentiates one person from the other.

Cultural diversity includes the change in the conception of the people related to value, beliefs and other aspects. Diversity in the culture of an organization should no be ignored in order to maintain the values of the organization. It is said that cultural and racial differences increases the organizations image. However there are some people who are in against of the cultural diversity. Diversity in the organization increases the openness among the workforces. People with the multitude culture and other background differences increases the environment of goal oriented in the organization. Organizational diversity means variety of culture, gender, belief, values, experiences, racial, society etc which creates the internal environment of the organization. Mostly diversity in the organization is increased through the workforce from different areas. People from different areas have different lifestyle, different social experiences, different religion and different background (Allen, 1995, Pp. nd).

Diversity in an organization brings the heterogeneity in the boundaries of an organization which increases the opportunities for the workforce in order to share the knowledge, learn from others and grow the careers. Workforce diversity increases the innovation, organizational growth, development of excellent ideas. For innovating the organizational environment, diversity with the help of ability and knowledge is needed. Diverse teams in the organizational environment provide the different ways for solving the problems. A person from different culture and background gives different ideas which in turn help in solving the problems. Diversity of workforce provides the simplicity in the problem solving decision (Allen, 1995, Pp. nd).
