Introduction

Life is beautiful! It is the privilege right of an individual to enjoy each and every pleasure that is offered by life and this beautiful world. But unfortunately, there are certain factors that are prevalent in our world that nullifies and affects the beauty of the world and hence affects our lives. Such factors include global warming, pollution, endangered species and many other factors. When God has given us such a miraculous world then it is our responsibility to take care of this world rather than destroying this world. There are different individuals, agencies, organizations, institutes and NGO's that work hard and make efforts to make the environment of our world better. Besides that there are several other ways in which we can improve the environment of this world and make this world a beautiful place to live. The aim and objective of this paper is to talk about one of the aspects to with which we can possibly bring a substantial change in the environment. This paper particularly talks about the implementation of the literacy program of ecological studies in public schools. The paper talks about the implementation of the literacy program of ecological studies in public schools from variegated facets.

Research Statement

Ecological literacy must be implemented into the public school system if we are to solve social and environmental problems. If we educate children in a way in which they come away with an understanding of and a passion for nature/the environment, the rest of these problems will solve themselves.

Meaning of Environmental Protection or Sustainability

The term environmental protection or sustainability can carry mixed meanings, so it is necessary to clarify the meaning of environmental protection or sustainability as utilized in this paper. Most succinctly put, environmental protection or sustainability refers to the ability to satisfy the needs of a society without jeopardizing the prospects of future generations. Sustainability exists in environmental, social, and economic areas and true sustainability should incorporate the ability of each area to maintain itself without impacting the others in a negative way. Sustainability means a focus on systemic changes that allow for improved health and economic opportunity for all humans, as well as establishing strong communities that preserve the earth's ability to sustain life. To live sustainably means that human and economic needs must continually be evaluated in terms of potential impacts on future generations. The term indicates a process of decision making as much as a specific script for living (Capra, 1989).

Meaning of Ecology Literacy

Values and behaviors may be deemed sustainable if they reflect a positive life experience now, without creation of a negative impact on future generations. Environmental protection and sustainability represents a dramatic shift for Americans, as well as other societies that have sought to continually increase in scale without significant regard to social or environmental consequences.
