Impact of Globalization on Education Policies

Globalization and its impact on different fields of life is a major issue of today's world. The impacts of globalization differ from country to country and hence although now it presents a common goal of development inequalities among countries are ever highest. One of the fields that are affected by globalization is education which is discussed in this study. Education system and policies of education in different countries are now aligning in order to match the international standards and to integrate with the shrinking world.

The traditional approaches of education policies are now changing due to a new concept of global governance and this issue is connected with the issue of international development. This study emphasises on the effect of globalisation on educational policies through comparing cases of China and Kenya.

Issues with the Development Process in China

In past decade China grew as a core of industrial development in Asia. Still China is not a developed country on the basis of some criteria of international development. These issues include the uneven development process in china or the problem inequality. A large fraction of China's population lives in abject poverty. The reason of this abject poverty is given as large population size. Although the steps taken in the country to control population are aggressive the high momentum resulted in large size of population.

When China appears as a role of capturing international market it seems like this country has started the process of global convergence. Later on this fact is revealed that the cost effective production and aggressive strategy in international trade policy of the country were the reasons behind this heroic role. The development process of the country declared as an unstable process.

Education Policy in China

More than 2% of the GDP of China is spent on the sector of education. 9 years of education is compulsory for all the children and enrolments till this standard of education are more than 90%. The amount of budget allocated for the sector of education and the volume of enrolments are satisfactory figures unless the overlooked statistics of children of migrants is not considered. Poverty brings those issues that lead the increasing enrolments in technical and vocational centres such as disability from paying fees and poor performance due to malnutrition. While the high status occupations related to the university education which is not in access of the majority of population inequality rises in the country. Education policies in China succeed in coping up with the global issue of women's education. Percentage of female literacy differs by 14 points from percentage of male literacy. Unlike the other Asian countries policies adopted since 1990 that shifted burden of cost of higher education from state to the students and their families resulted in increased rate of enrolments in higher education.
