ABSTRACT

In the following proposed study, we will analyze and examine the various factors which determine the effectiveness of anti-psychotic medications in managing the behavioural concerns in the older adult population. The main focus of the study is to analyze the various determinants and the reason behind it. The research study will also illustrate the various kinds of drugs that are of use in dementia occurring in elderly. The research study adopts the secondary research method for the purpose of data collection and analysis. In the end the research study also provides adequate recommendations and suggestions for future research and also provides implications for the study.

Background of the Study

The study addresses the “Effectiveness of Anti psychotic drugs in dealing with challenging behavior among the older persons with dementia” as the use of anti psychotic drugs has been increased to great extent in treating the older persons with dementia. The topic of the study is of particular concern for the researchers because positive results have been shown in the older persons with dementia by the usage of these drugs.

The anti psychotic drugs have proved to be effective in treating Dementia and other disorders like Schizophrenia, Alzeihmer's etc. According to the research carried out by Banerjee (2009), in addressing the issue of healthcare quality, anti psychotic drugs are of particular interest since their use is widespread and inappropriate prescribing of these drugs is common (Banerjee, 2009, 191).
